How It
Works
Whether you are an established author or working on your first book, I will be happy to discuss your project with you. During a complimentary initial phone consultation, we can talk over the status of your work, your goals, and how I can help you reach them.
If you are in the early stages of developing your book idea, I will lay out several options for completing a book proposal and a first draft.
If you already have a full draft, I usually suggest a two-step process:
If you are a faculty member with funding to support your scholarly activities, let me know if you would like me to bill your department directly.
Email me to set up an appointment for a complimentary phone consultation. Once we have discussed your project, I will be happy to give you a price estimate.

If you are in the early stages of developing your book idea, I will lay out several options for completing a book proposal and a first draft.
If you already have a full draft, I usually suggest a two-step process:
- An overall evaluation of your manuscript. This initial assessment lets me gauge your manuscript's strengths, get to know your writing style, and determine what remains to be done. I will propose a roadmap for revisions, give you a cost estimate for further work, and suggest a timeline. The evaluation fee is payable when I receive your manuscript.
- Developmental editing and/or copyediting. Depending on your needs, I will work on your entire manuscript at once or on a chapter at a time. If I am doing a developmental edit, I will primarily be raising questions and suggesting additions, deletions, rearrangements, and revisions to strengthen the book as a whole. If I am copyediting, I will be proposing line-level revisions. In either case, I use Track Changes to make my recommendations, and I often work with authors through several rounds of revision. Generally, half of the low end of the estimate for editing is due when I begin my work, the balance when I complete it. Particularly long and/or complex projects may require a different payment schedule.
